HELENE FULD COLLEGE OF NURSING RECEIVES $250,000 CABRINI GRANT Funding for HFCN Presidential Scholarships Will Support Nursing Students, Help Address Nursing Shortage, and Improve Community Health and Well-Being

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 2, 2026

NEW YORK, NY – ΊΪΑΟΙη today announced it is the recipient of a $250,000 grant from Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, which recognized HFCN’s innovative and vital role in strengthening the health care system by educating the nurses of tomorrow with a focus on vulnerable New Yorkers.

Located in Harlem, ΊΪΑΟΙη has been a leader in nursing education for more than 80 years, offering students from underrepresented communities top-notch classroom and clinical experiences, and a life-changing career path that benefits them, their families and their patients. More than 80 percent of HFCN students are women and members of minority groups, and many are economically disadvantaged, facing significant financial barriers to enrolling and remaining in their chosen programs.

Dr. Joyce Griffin-Sobel, President & CEO of ΊΪΑΟΙη, says, β€œThe entire HFCN community is tremendously grateful to Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for this generous grant and the Foundation’s confidence in the work we are doing. This funding comes at a crucial time, as HFCN strives to provide access to more students who would otherwise be unable to afford a nursing education. That education, in turn, means more highly skilled nurses entering the health care system. HFCN is proud to be among the outstanding organizations recognized by Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for working to improve the health and well-being of our entire community, especially the most vulnerable New Yorkers.” Dr. Griffin-Sobel added, β€œΊΪΑΟΙη just celebrated our 80th anniversary, and I can’t think of a better way to begin our ninth decade of service than by receiving this important grant.”

The New York State Department of Health projects New York will experience a shortage of almost 40,000 nurses by 2030. HFCN currently has more than 1,000 students, and graduates about 300 students each year. This generous grant will provide vital student support, helping ensure more aspiring nurses can pursue a Helene Fuld education.Μύ

2025 Carnegie Classifications

ΊΪΑΟΙη has been recognized in the 2025 Carnegie Classifications, a respected national framework that recognizes institutional mission and student outcomes in higher education.

As part of this update:

  • Our college is classified under the Institutional Classification as a Special Focus: Nursing institution, a category shared by just 6% of U.S. colleges and universities.
  • We have also been recognized in the new Student Access and Earnings Classification as one of the nation’s Opportunity Colleges and Universitiesβ€”Higher Access, Higher Earnings. Awarded to about 16% of all classified institutions, this designation identifies institutions that serve a diverse and representative student population and help graduates achieve higher wage earnings outcomes.

This recognition reaffirms our commitment to:

  • Providing a dynamic career ladder approach to nursing education, enabling individuals to enhance their education and improve their nursing practice.
  • Contributing to the health of communities by preparing high-quality, technically adaptable nurses who can function effectively in a changing society.
  • Advancing professional learning and development, ensuring our graduates are equipped to meet the evolving challenges of the healthcare environment.

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education (ACE) developed the new Carnegie Classifications, using the most recent national data from IPEDS, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the College Scorecard.

ΊΪΑΟΙη Ranked #1 for ROI on an Associate’s Degree

We are proud to announce that ΊΪΑΟΙη has been ranked #1 in the nation for return on investment (ROI) among colleges offering associate’s degrees, according to a recent report by Money Magazine based on research from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

The study evaluated more than 4,500 colleges nationwide, focusing on the long-term value of a degree in terms of cost, earnings, and debt. Helene Fuld stood out for delivering exceptional economic value to its students, with a projected $604,000 ROI after 10 years and over $3.8 million after 40 years.
