Computer Requirement

Required Student Technology

All students are required to have continuous access to the following technology in order to enroll in and successfully complete coursework, assessments, and examinations:

  1. A portable personal computer (laptop)
  2. A reliable high-speed internet connection
  3. A functional webcam (built-in or external)
  4. A headset or headphones with microphone (wired preferred; compatible cell-phone headsets may be sufficient if compatible with the computer)

Important: Tablets, smartphones, and shared or public computers are not acceptable substitutes for required testing activities.

Minimum Computer Specifications

To ensure compatibility with ATI Testing, Respondus LockDown Browser, and Respondus Monitor, student computers must meet or exceed the following specifications.

Hardware Requirements

  1. Processor (CPU):
    • Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 (4th generation or newer)
    • AMD Ryzen equivalent or newer
    • Apple Mac computers (2015 models or newer recommended)
  2. Memory (RAM):
    • Minimum: 4 GB
    • Recommended: 8 GB or higher (strongly recommended for testing stability)
  3. Display & Graphics:
    • Minimum screen resolution: 1024 脳 768
    • Hardware acceleration must be enabled
    • Integrated or dedicated graphics supported (Intel HD Graphics 3000 or better)
  4. Peripherals:
    • Working webcam
    • Working microphone
    • Speakers or headphones

Operating System Requirements

  1. Windows (64-bit only)
    • Windows 10
    • Windows 11
    • Windows S Mode is NOT supported.
      • Students using Windows in S Mode must permanently switch out of S Mode in order to install testing software. This process is one-way and free of charge.
    • How to switch out of S Mode:
      • Open Settings 鈫 System 鈫 Activation
      • Under Switch to Windows 黑料社/Pro, select Go to the Microsoft Store
      • Select Get on the 鈥淪witch out of S mode鈥 page
      • After confirmation, you may install software outside the Microsoft Store
  2. macOS
    • The three most recent major macOS versions supported by Apple at the time of testing
    • Administrator access is required to install testing software
    • Note: macOS beta versions are not supported.
  3. Supported Web Browsers
    • Google Chrome (required for ATI Speech-to-Text features)
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Microsoft Edge (Windows only)
    • Safari (macOS only)

All operating systems, browsers, and required applications must be kept fully up to date. Outdated software may prevent access to exams and assessments.

Network Requirements

  1. Minimum: 3 Mbps download speed
  2. Recommended: 5 Mbps or higher (stable, wired or strong Wi-Fi connection)聽

Students are responsible for ensuring reliable connectivity during exams. Public Wi-Fi networks are strongly discouraged.

Unsupported Devices & Platforms

The following devices and operating systems are not supported for ATI Testing or Respondus-based exams:

  1. iOS devices (iPhones, iPads)
  2. Android phones or tablets
  3. Chromebooks
  4. Linux / GNU-based operating systems
  5. Virtual machines (VMs), remote desktops, or cloud-based systems

Equipment Purchase Recommendation (Optional)

Students may choose to purchase equipment through Dell鈥檚 Education Purchase Program:

This is a recommendation only, not a requirement. 黑料社 is not affiliated with Dell and does not receive compensation. All purchase-related issues must be handled directly with the vendor.

Respondus Monitor License Requirement (When Applicable)

Students are required to purchase a one-year Respondus Monitor license only if an instructor assigns an exam that requires Respondus Monitor.

Important Notes:

  1. Cost: $15 for 12 months
  2. The license is required only when an exam explicitly requires Respondus Monitor
  3. Licenses must be purchased through the Respondus LockDown Browser
  4. Instructors will provide a practice or sample quiz with guided purchase instructions
  5. Students must install Respondus LockDown Browser prior to purchasing the license

By using Respondus Monitor when required, the College ensures a secure, fair, and academically honest testing environment.
